Sociological survey called “Problems faced by people with disabilities when moving from point A to point B” was held in Ganja. » Representatives of the Department of Urban Education, Nizami and Kapaz district departments of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, as well as representatives of various public associations and rehabilitation centers of the city took part in the survey.
Vafa Huseynli, Project Manager of Azerbaijan National Automobile Club: “The goal of the project is to identify the difficulties faced by people with disabilities during movement: transport infrastructure, people’s attitudes, stereotypes, hostile looks and so on. We analyze everything, and on this basis we prepare a series of reports and proposals”.
Elmira Ismayilova, Chairman of “Disabled Women” Public Union’s Ganja City Department: “The poll involved 200 people. 100 individuals with disabilities, 100 parents or nurses looking after them. As a result of the survey, it can be said that, despite all the conditions made for them in new buildings, this problem still remains in the old buildings and in public transport”.
One of the factors limiting the mobility of disabled people in the city is a limited number of wheelchair ramps and their non-conformity with the standards. As for the use of public transport, accessible to disabled people…
Jeyhun Aliyev, Lawyer of the Department of Motor Transport and Passenger Transport of Ganja City: “Special buses will be introduced in Ganja in 2018. These buses will be organized in such a way as to provide opportunities for disabled people. It is also expected that an intelligent management system will be implemented in buses”.
Although various efforts have been made to ensure the integration of disabled people into society, no tangible results have been achieved so far.
