On 27 December, 2018 the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev approved by Decree a new ‘State Program of Azerbaijan Republic on Road Safety 2019-2023’. The main objective of the State Program includes measures to improve road safety and reduce the number of road traffic crashes in Azerbaijan thereby also reducing the socio-economic damage caused by preventable road casualties in the country.
National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan (AMAK) is intensively engaged in promoting road safety and implementing social projects in this direction since 2009. Since 2015, AMAK, a member of International Automobile Federation (FIA), benefiting from broad international experience and knowledge in this field gained a lot of advantages such as implementing these experience and knowledge in Azerbaijan and participating in international projects.
In the period of 2015-2018, AMAK has implemented a number of projects on road safety with the support of international organizations such as FIA, Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) and Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety.
By using the State Program as a guide and its objectives, AMAK plans to refer to the international practice in the effective organization of road safety and raise awareness among general public in this field.
Based on the objectives of the State Program, AMAK has identified priority areas for its activities in the following directions for 2019-2021:
- ensuring public participation in road safety;
- improving public awareness, advocacy and promotion on road safety;
- improving road and transport culture;
- Supporting the government on the development of relevant mobility strategy ensuring efficient, safe and convenient movement of all road users in the road network.
